We revolutionized how we provide intensive intervention this year, and the results were impressive! In the past, our school had two intervention teachers who could typically support 5-7 students per grade level twice a week in a pull out model. This was resulting in an “outsourcing” mentality where the roster teachers relied on the intervention teachers to take the struggling students out of class and be responsible for their learning and progress. This year instead, we brought art enrichment to all K-5 students. We hired one art teacher who taught each class art while the roster teacher provided Tier 2 individualized intensive intervention. We structured it so every student received art enrichment and students who also needed additional academic support received intensive intervention. This put the responsibility back on the classroom teachers who knew their students’ learning needs best, while giving them support & time to help their students.
